Sudden Urge to Go

Breakfast this morning came in the form of a delicious Greek yogurt bowl topped with a little bit of every kind of fruit that I have in the freezer. yogurt breakfastStrawberries, blackberries, bananas, mangoes all topped with peanut butter.  This breakfast certainly hit the spot this morning.

Long Run

Yesterday, I mentioned that I had a little bit of anxiety about the long run I had planned for yesterday evening.  Luckily, I finished the 12 mile run…but it was NOT the easiest 12 miles I have run as there was a little complication along the way.

As a leader for the NIFS Mini Marathon Training Program, I have been a “fill-in” leader for the 9:30, 10, 10:30, and 11 minute per mile pace groups.  Last night, I was in the 10 minute pace group.

12 mile run garminThe complication during the run?  I had the sudden urge to use the bathroom!

Right around mile 4 of the 12 mile run, I felt the need to “go” but there were no bathrooms in site.  This was strange for me because I always make sure to use the facilities several times before a run and I have never had the need to go while I was running.

I guess there is a first time for everything.

I ended up spotting a Port-a-Potty around mile 8 and had to leave my running group.  Boy, was I thankful that I saw that little bathroom pit-stop!!  I ended up completing the final leg of my 12 mile run on my own, but I was able to pick up my pace a little bit and felt 100% more comfortable!

At the end of the race, I was looking forward to water and snacks.  I barely drank any water because of my need to use the restroom, so I made sure to drink plenty when I was done.

Each week after the half marathon training, our training group provides snacks for all of us to enjoy.  We have had fruit, tasty granola, delicious fig bars, and even yogurt parfaits, but BY FAR my favorite snack has been these little guys:

post race snacks

I am honestly not even sure what they are, but they are kind of like sesame sticks and they were donated from Whole Foods.  I definitely need to buy some of these to keep on hand 😉

Question of the Morning:

  • Have you ever had the sudden urge to “go” while running for a long distance either in a race or training?
  • What is your favorite snack after a tough workout?

  1. LOL…I can appreciate that story more than you know. I participated this past weekend in the Seneca 7. It is a 77.7 mile run around Seneca Lake in New York on a team of 7. There were 210 teams and very few porta potties…2, sometimes 3 at every 2-3 exchange points. I had to run one of my legs praying I would not pee my pants since the lines were so long at the few available locations. It was a great event and loads of fun…that was my one and only complaint…but huge, especially as a woman! (p.s. We finished 83 out of 210 teams, many of which were all male…we had 2 women and 5 men)

    • Glad to know I am not the only one this has happened to!! Congrats on your awesome finishing time 🙂
