Friday evening, Brian and I became the proud renters of a new apartment!
Technically this is our very first place together that is just totally us, and we couldn’t be more excited!
In college we lived next door to each other, when I graduated we lived together with one of his friends from dental school for a short period of time before I left to work on the cruise line, and then when I came back home from the cruise we lived with his parents in their basement.
We were actually not planning on moving until May when the weather warmed up a bit, but we knew what area we were interested in living in and we knew what type of apartment we were looking for. Β The area that we wanted to live in is Β a pretty popular place for renters, so you have to always have your eyes peeled for a new “for rent” sign.
Lucky for us, Brian loves house shopping and literally just stumbled onto this place! Β We checked it out, reviewed our finances, and fell in love with it…so we decided to move three months early!
We couldn’t be happier.
The living rooms is very open to the large (to us) kitchen.
There is a lot of cabinet space for storage in the kitchen.
It has a washer and dryer, which was a HUGE factor for Brian and I, and it has two bedrooms. Β We plan to use the second bedroom as an office/study room.
Initially, Brian and I were just planning on bringing all of the little stuff over, but staying at his parents’ house for the rest of the week. Β Well, once we got inside this place and really started putting things away…we didn’t want to leave!! We brought over most of our clothes and toiletries and although we are still waiting on our big furniture (like a couch and bed!) we are going to stay here during the week on an air mattress π
After working hard to pack things up and load up our cars on Saturday, we stopped at a grocery store near our new apartment to pick up some delicious salads from the salad bar. Β Our first real meal eaten in our new home!
We literally had no groceries, but I made sure to bring over a couple of staple items for breakfast. Β The first meal I cooked in our new home was stove top oats with peanut butter. Β They never tasted so good!
On Sunday, before heading back to Brian’s parents to get more items we stopped by Henry’s Coffee Bistro, a local coffee shop a couple of blocks away, for a quick pick-me-up to fuel us through a long day of packing, unpacking, and moving. Β I think Brian and I may become regulars at this joint π
My moving job was the kitchen. Β So, after packing up what we had in Brian’s parents’ kitchen, I headed to the store to stock our bare fridge for the week.
I think this was the most fun shopping trip I have ever had. Β I couldn’t wait to organize all of our food and kitchen items!
I should have taken a before picture because literally this fridge was bare to the bones.
We still have a long way to go, but we are looking forward to the first week living in our new apartment!
Hope you all had a great weekend, Super Bowl Sunday, and start to the week!
Let me know if you have any favorite home decorating blogs or web sites. Β Brian and I are on the hunt for ideas!
