Healthy Holidays with Treble in the Kitchen {Giveaway Closed} Day Three

Day three of this giveaway closed December 13, 2013.

Day three of Healthy Holidays with Treble in the Kitchen and the prizes just keep on coming!

Healthy holidays with titk

It’s no secret that I adore baking, cooking, and experimenting in the kitchen especially if I am “healthifying” a decadent recipe.

There are a couple of ingredients that I turn to when cooking as helpful substitutes for ingredients that are higher in fat and lower in nutritional value like butter and sour cream.  Even when making special holiday recipes, I sometimes sub a few ingredients hear and there to boost the nutrition of the treat…just as long as the flavor isn’t altered!

My top two healthy baking and cooking substitute ingredients are Coconut Oil and Greek Yogurt

Chobani

I am a Greek yogurt lover through and through.  Especially when it comes to Chobani.

Not only will I use Greek yogurt to add a little extra moistness when baking things like my Secretly Healthy Blueberry Muffins or High Protein Banana Muffins, but I eat Greek yogurt just about every day!

It’s great in smoothies for added thickness, mixed with pumpkin and topped with fruit and nutbutter, in my Perfect Protein Pancakes, and it’s excellent in my overnight oats.

Brian even eats a cup of the fruity flavored Chobani in his lunch!

Basically, Brian and I can’t get enough of our beloved Chobani 🙂

Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil

Tropical Traditions coconut oil is amazing for the inside AND outside of the body.  While I love using it as a butter substitute in recipes like my Pumpkin Oatmeal Chocolate Chippers:

I also LOVE using it as lotion, especially in the cold winter months when my skin gets extra dry.

A little goes a long way with coconut oil, and it can be used in sweet and savory recipes.  If you aren’t a coconut fan, no need to worry.  It doesn’t taste like coconut at all!  It adds no flavor to the things you add it to while cooking, which is why this star ingredient is so versatile.
