This post is a little overdue! Today I wanted to share the details of our mountain biking adventure from a couple of weeks ago.
To celebrate our wedding anniversary, Brian and I have started a little tradition of doing some sort of “adventure.” ย Last year we went white water rafting and this year we went mountain biking. ย I love our little tradition ๐
While Brian and I are both very active and love trying new things, I want to be completely honest in saying that I am very cautious when it comes to trying new things that involve a lot of risk…like skiing or mountain biking.
Because of this, taking a mountain biking lesson was the PERFECT way for us to safely try out a new-to-us sport!
We took our lesson through Denver Adventures, and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to try mountain biking for the first time.
Our guide was very knowledgable, he happily answered ALL of my questions (trust me, I ask a TON!), and he made sure Brian and I felt confident and had a great time out on the trail.
Our tour started early at 8am, so we were the first people to head out for the day. ย We arrived at the headquarters (they offer to pick you up if you are visiting the area and don’t have a car!), loaded the bikes up on the truck and we were off!
It was just myself, Brian and our guide which made me feel so much more at ease. ย While I was much slower than Brian and our guide, they waited for me at several check points and always made sure I was having fun and that I was comfortable. ย I absolutely loved it and had a blast ๐
I really felt like we learned the basics of mountain biking, so if we want to go out on our own or with friends I have a much better understanding of how to be a safe and successful mountain biker.
Based on this post, here are a few similar ones you should check out.

I like your tradition too. Very sweet of you to take on a new adventure every year ๐
I may copy that!
It’s so fun!
My boyfriend is such a thrill seeker and I’m definitely a little more risk averse! I’d love to take a class!
It’s the perfect balance, Dani ๐
Yay! Looks like you had a lot of fun! What a cool tradition to have with your husband. I love it! My next big test with mountain biking it going to be doing some downhill biking. You have to take the chair lifts up to the top with your bike and that kinda scares me!
Downhill!? Good luck!
What an awesome way to spend your anniversary! I personally love mountain biking but haven’t had much of a chance lately…this post is inspiring ๐
It was such a fun experience ๐
Wow- I believe if we lived near eachother we’d be BF! Ha- my husband and I celebrate the same way- we’re headed to Fiji this year to explore there and New Zealand’s “black water rafting”! I’ll be sure to share how that goes too ๐
Yes! So fun! Where in New Zealand?!
I’ve been “mountain” biking in Virginia twice. I had a small wreck the first time and a pretty nasty wreck the second time, so I think lessons are a terrific idea!
However, I’m incredibly accident-prone, so I don’t think anything would have prevented me from getting some kind of injury. :p
I was so scared of whiping out I made sure to take it super duper slow!
I used to have a mountain bike as a kid, but stuck to dirt trails. I’m far too risk averse to go flying down a mountain, but I do enjoy getting out there on my bike!
The lesson was a good balance for a “safe” risk ๐
I have never been mountain biking before; it sounds fun but a little scary. I think having an anniversary adventure date is a great way to celebrate.
It was definitely scary, but the lesson helped me feel so much more confident ๐
Ok, this looks like TOO much fun!!! What a great idea to do an “adventure” to celebrate your anni! So cute! You guys have really taken Denver by storm!
It was so awesome, Sarah!
I’ve never been mountain biking, but I LOVE biking and never get to do it often enough!
I agree! Wish I had my own bike so I could do it all the time ๐
This looks like so much fun! I just got a bike and started riding. I don’t think I’m ready for mountain biking yet! There are two huge parks near me that always have bikers. Maybe I’ll check them out sometime ๐ Great post!
Mountain biking is a bit scary at first ๐ I wish Brian and I had our own bikes!!
I’ve never been mountain biking, but I really want to try it! I think I would want someone to give me a lesson first!
The lesson was perfect!! Taught me all the basics I needed to know ๐
